Story Behind Holiday HeroesWhen I was 9 years old, I had to spend the night at the hospital due to a minor surgery. The surgery was planned much in advance, and that particular night happened to be Christmas Eve. I was devastated that I wouldn't be spending the holiday with the Christmas tree, presents, warm home-cooked meal, family, and friends. I was filled with feelings for sadness and longing as I said bye to my parents in the waiting room.
The next morning, as I was staring at the boring white walls of the hospital room and counting down the hours until I could run back home, something happened... ...and that something was a group of cheerful and energetic high school volunteers who burst into my room singing Christmas carols and handing me so many presents! I was shocked, and instantly filled with so much love and warmth. They handed out donated Christmas presents that others in my community had so graciously given to the hospital. That's when it hit me. I am blessed to live in an environment where I receive love & support during every holiday. But many are not as fortunate. That's why my goal is to give back to those WHO NEED IT THE MOST during every holiday. |
